UK producer and distributor ITV Studios (ITVS) has picked up the local production rights to upcoming French singing format Mystery Duets in eight territories.
ITV has acquired rights in the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Australia and Israel after agreeing a deal with the format’s distributor, London-based sales boutique Can’t Stop Media.
Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV3 has also secured the rights to the format.
In the Netherlands and Flemish-speaking Belgium, Can’t Stop Media will partner with prodco Vincent TV to develop the show, while in Italy it will work with Blu Yazmine on a local adaptation.
Originally commissioned by France’s TF1 and premiering on the commercial broadcaster on February 26, Mystery Duets partners famous singers for a duet, with their identities kept secret until the performance.
The format was created and produced by DMLSTV, the company behind another French format, The Secret Song, which is also distributed by Can’t Stop Media.
Can’t Stop co-founder Matthieu Porte said: “The way a leading channel like MTV3, clever producers like Vincent TV or Blue Yazmine or ITV Studios, the company behind The Voice, decided not to even wait for the shooting to become exclusive is rarely seen.”
Mike Beale, MD of global creative network at ITVS, said: “The world needs to be entertained at the moment and this show delivers.”
MTV3’s head of drama and development, Jani Hartikainen, described Mystery Duets as “engaging, emotional and entertaining – all the elements that our audiences love.”
